Ramkumar V. 5 best articles in airway journal since inception. Airway 2022;5:101-2
The 13th National Airway Conference 2022 (NAC 2022) of the All India Difficult Airway Association was held in Bengaluru between 9th and 11th September 2022. When the Organising Committee of NAC 2022 asked me as the Editor-in-Chief of the Airway Journal to present the best 5 articles since the inception of the journal in 2018, my first thoughts were – How do I choose the best 5 from 158 articles published in the 12 issues since 2018? At Step 1, I decided to exclude special articles, review articles and editorials (38 in all) despite these being exemplary, informative and educative. This I thought would give importance to original articles and case reports that would be authored by the younger generation of anaesthesiologists. In Step 2, I chose 4 original articles and 1 case report from the remaining 32 original articles, 60 case reports and 28 letters to editor. These were chosen on the basis of depiction of sound scientific methodology and focus on the currently important areas of airway research and management.
I congratulate the authors of the following five articles for presenting their original work in a manner that will be useful for airway managers globally.

I would also like to congratulate and thank Prof Bala Bhaskar S and his team for the 6 articles on Statistics that serve as a primer for the basic understanding of medical statistics.,,,,, The 4 articles on Research Methodology by Prof Ramesh A address common questions that arise in the minds of researchers at all levels of experience.,,, The articles on Research Methodology also introduce the reader to an App (Research Genie) that can be downloaded free of charge for both Android phones and i-Phones. This interactive App addresses research from various angles and is a good tool to clarify the doubts when we set out to plan a research project. Together, these two series of 10 articles collectively looked at the hurdles that a young researcher would face nowadays.
'An Ode to Airway' is a beautifully worded piece of poetry that takes us through the various difficulties that are faced in airway management and how recent advances have helped us overcome these. Thanks to Dr Vyshnavi S of JSS Medical College, Mysuru for sharing this wonderful piece of poetry (Airway 2019;2:Back Inner Cover).
I thank the Organising Committee of NAC 2022, Bengaluru for this wonderful gesture of placing on record outstanding articles in our Airway Journal since its inception in 2018. Congratulations to all the authors on passing through this rather rigorous selection process and apologies for any inadvertent bias on my part.
